We went to the Bingham Copper pit\mine yesterday and watched the short movie and walked through the museum. It was really neat.

I don't know how (and am not going to worry about figuring out 'cause it really doesn't matter) to change the order of the picures. This is a picture of Cove Fort in central Utah. We took that tour in late July. It was very interesting and way better than I thought it was going to be!

Back view of the copper mine-nearly to Tooele.

Did you know those dump trucks are as big as a house? And each tire costs $25,000 and each truck has six of them? Wow! It was windy too; Jayden is hiding on my shoulder. We heard a big boom, looked over the side and saw dust billowing up, they had just blown up another area! Then we drove through the canyon and looked at the pit from the back. Cool.

LAST FLING BEFORE SCHOOL

School starts in Granite District today so Saturday night Steve and Lezlie had a cookout to wrap up the summer before the kids have to hit the books again. Of course, Spencer and Alena are already back in school and have been for almost a month, but they're in a different school district. Both the Hansen and Anderson clans showed up to sample Steve's cooking on his fancy big grill. It was great! There was corn and salads, homemade ice cream and brownies too. All in all a great party. Here's a few shots I took. My battery died early on so pictures of Chris, David, and Nathan and of Steve cooking didn't turn out.

Grandma's garden

Heres a picture of Brandon's pumpkin that is growing in Grandma's garden. I'm trying really hard to keep the bugs from eating it. Boyd took this picture of our hibiscus. There's a closeup shot of it on my web page.

Frank Church Wilderness Area

Vada sent some pictures to go with their excursion to the Frank Church Wilderness area. Mary Jo, that's where we went horseback riding on our trip to Mack's Inn.

From Ed & Rachel

Rachel and I just wanted to drop a quick note to let everyone know we are ok. Tropical Storm Fay has not been as bad as was predicted and as of this email is still not a hurricane. We have been home with the kids all day and our jobs are closed tomorrow as well. There has been a lot of rain and some strong winds. None of the tornadoes have been in our area. There was one about ten miles away. At times the humidity has been so high that the windows to the house fog up and the water starts to run down them. Shortly after that happen we seem to get a big wave or rain. We can't get out of house because of street flooding but that has more to do with the work the city hasn't finished on our storm drain system in our area then with Fay. We had the power flicker once but we haven't been without power. The biggest problem has been that we only have one TV, and we have had it on the weather. The kids really want to watch something else. We did have 3 but we lost 2 of our TV last month when lighting struck the cable box down the street and blow them up. At this point Rachel and I just really want to go back to work and the boys want to go back to daycare. Today was to be Cody's first day of pre-school but it was canceled. We are already starting to watch another system that is developing out in the ocean. Hopefully it doesn't become a storm.

From Vada

well after a week in the mts we are home. we didnt mean to stay so long but we were having such a great time we hated to leave .the creek we were on had a chinook salmon run going on and it was really something to see those huge fish going over the gravel bars. some would go right by us everyday and twice a big group of men walked the banks looking for reds. they even had a scuba diver with them to check the deep holes. the first night we had a bear in camp . he made such a noise trying to pry our cooler open. when chuck yelled at him he walked up looked in our window and saundered off. that is the first time we have ever seen a bear there in all the times we have camped there. there were the most sandhill cranes I have ever seen.
